iCloud Photo Library is part of iCloud, Apple's storage and sync service. When combined with one of iCloud's paid storage tiers, you can use it to store thousands of photos and videos and share it with your other devices — including your Apple TV.

Unlike Apple's other devices, however, your Apple TV can't download images from your Photos library. Instead, it relies solely on iCloud streaming. Before you can display your photos and video on your TV, you'll first need to set up the iCloud Photo Library.

How can I view photos on Apple TV?

You have a few different choices when it comes to viewing images on your Apple TV, depending on what you plan to showcase.

  • iCloud Photo Library: If you turn on the iCloud Photo Library, you'll stream your entire collection of images and videos to your TV — if you have items in your photo collection you wouldn't want to share on the big screen, keep that in mind.
  • iCloud Photo Sharing: You can use this to only share albums you've shared with friends and family (or vice versa).

How to enable iCloud Photo Library

When you turn on the iCloud Photo Library, every image and video you've stored will be available on your TV. This is great if you don't mind people going through your image collection (or you live alone), but keep in mind that if you have guests, you may not want to keep this setting enabled.

There are a few ways to transfer your iTunes library from one computer to another. When you get a new Mac, use Setup Assistant (or Migration Assistant, if you’re switching from Windows) to move files—including your iTunes files—from your old computer to the new one.   1. Tap on the Settings app on your Apple TV.
  2. Click Users and Accounts.

  3. Choose iCloud under Apple TV Accounts.

How to enable iCloud Photo Sharing

If you select iCloud Photo Sharing, your Apple TV will have access to any albums you've shared with friends (or they've shared with you). You can use this setting in tandem with iCloud Photo Library or in isolation (if you don't want your entire image library accessible inside your living room).

Luckily, if you use Apple's iCloud Photo Library service, you can access every image or video you've ever uploaded or taken straight from a web browser. You can even organize and arrange photos in great detail: All you need is a connection, your Apple ID, and iCloud.com!

How to access and view photos in iCloud Photo Library on the web

You can view your entire iCloud Photo Library on iCloud.com: You need only to sign in.

  1. Go to iCloud.com in any web browser (you might need to sign in).

  2. Click on the Photos icon from the main menu.

Note: The first time you load iCloud Photo Library on the web, it might take some time. If you see Preparing Library.., be patient and come back a bit later once Apple has finished processing your photos. Once you've opened your Photos library for the first time, you can leave iCloud.com and your library will continue to populate to the web, so don't worry. Once it's done, your entire photo library will appear and subsequent load times will be much faster.

How to hide the sidebar in Photos on iCloud.com

  1. Go to iCloud.com in any web browser (you might need to sign in to your iCloud account first).

  2. Click on the Photos icon from the main menu.

  3. Click the sidebar icon in the upper left corner.

  4. Click it again to make it re-appear.

If you need to, you can manually upload photos to your iCloud Photo Library using iCloud.com.

  1. Go to iCloud.com in any web browser (you might need to sign in).

  2. Click on the Photos icon from the main menu.

  3. Click the Upload Photos icon in the upper right corner. It looks like a cloud with an arrow in it.

  4. Click on the photos or videos you would like to upload.

  5. Click Choose.

iCloud.com also lets you manage your photo and video albums, just as you would on Photos for iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

  1. Go to iCloud.com in any web browser (you might need to sign in).

  2. Click on the Photos icon from the main menu.

  3. Click the Add to an Album icon in the upper right corner. It looks like a plus sign.

  4. Click on the album you would like to add your photos or videos to.

Just like on your iOS device or Mac, Photos for iCloud.com lets you share images and video with your friends and family.

  1. Go to iCloud.com in any web browser (you might need to sign in).

  2. Click on the Photos icon from the main menu.

  3. Click the Share icon in the upper right corner. It looks like a box with an arrow coming out the top of it.

  4. Click the platform you would like it shared with, ie Facebook, mail, etc.

If you need a standalone copy of an image or video you took, you can grab it from iCloud.com at any time.

  1. Go to iCloud.com in any web browser (you might need to sign in).

  2. Click on the Photos icon from the main menu.

  3. Click the Download selected item icon in the upper right corner.

  4. The photo or video will begin downloading automatically.

How to delete a photo from Photos on iCloud.com

When you delete photos from iCloud.com, they'll also be deleted on your other iCloud-connected devices.

  1. Go to iCloud.com in any web browser (you might need to sign in).

  2. Click on the Photos icon from the main menu.

  3. Click the Delete icon in the upper right corner. It looks like a trash can.

  4. Click Delete on the prompt that appears on screen.
